Hi, my name is Ivy Grant. I am the president and founder of I Am My Sister non-profit organization. I’m excited you're here to learn more about myself and how this initiative began.
I am a mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many, born and raised in St. Louis, Mo.
During my senior year in high school, I became pregnant with my now 15-year-old son. My senior year was tough because I was still determining what my future would look like and if I would be able to go to college as I had planned. With my parents' support and God's mercy, I was fortunate enough to go out of state and attend the illustrious Florida A&M University.
During my senior year of college, I applied and got accepted into the Teach for America education program. Once I graduated, I moved back to St. Louis where I began my education career as a 3rd-grade teacher in what is considered a low to moderate income area within St. Louis Public schools.
After teaching for a few years my interest began to shift and I decided to pursue a career in real estate. I was introduced to the real estate industry in 1999, when my mom became a realtor and eventually established our family-owned brokerage, St. Louis Metro Realtors in 2002.
As I navigated the real estate industry, my path of purpose began to bloom. God combined my passion for education and real estate and gave me the vision to create I Am My Sister to help my community build and sustain generational wealth through healing and homeownership.
It has not been easy to become the person I am evolving into, but becoming a mother at a young age taught me that quitting wasn't an option. What keeps me going is prayer and surrounding myself with like-minded people who can pour into me when my well is dry.
What I am continuously learning is growth happens in the valley. Even when it appears we are in the lowest and darkest place of our lives, God will always produce something beautiful.
